Her parents encouraged her to take up the sport so she could improve her health which was affected by breathing issues. "I began training and it was like fun, but I also practised dance and other activities. Swimming was not something serious but a hobby. I didn't understand why it was necessary to do all that effort, I didn't know why training had to be that painful." At age 13 she then got hooked by the competition.
