Her younger brother Zheng Wen competed in swimming at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In November 2011 she broke two bones in her arm in a surfing accident when a surfboard hit her after a big wave. The injury required surgery, with two metal plates and 15 screws inserted in her arm. The injury stopped her from swimming for six weeks and she did not regain full use of her arm for three months. The time out meant she was unable to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
