He suffered a left shoulder injury in November 2017 that ruled him out of the 2017 European Short Course Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. He sustained pain again in the same shoulder during the 2018 National Championships in Riccione, Italy, and was forced to withdraw from the competition.
