And it was a struggle to take me out of the pool, because I wanted to keep playing. One day I said to my parents that I wanted to train too, to do the same as my brothers." General
POOL FOCUS FOR TOKYO
At the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, Republic of Korea, she missed out on qualification for the open water 10km event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. To keep alive her Olympic ambitions she decided to concentrate on the 1500m and 800m events in the pool. "I was close to representing Brazil in open water at the Olympics [in Tokyo]. As a result I have decided to re-focus and see what I need to adjust to qualify for Brazil in pool swimming. They are two completely different sports, in the pool everything is more under control. The physical training inside and outside the water are also very different for the pool." She competed in both open water and pool swimming at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, winning bronze in the 10km open water event and the 800m freestyle. "The medal in the pool is sweeter because I knew it would be a challenge to compete in both disciplines." (uol.com.br, 11 Aug 2019)

COVID-19 IMPACT
She missed the Brazilian Olympic trials in April 2021 after testing positive for COVID-19, but met the 1500m freestyle qualification standard in June 2021 at an event for Brazilian swimmers who had missed the trials in April. "I was ready to swim in April when I got the news that I tested positive and was kept in quarantine in a hotel nearby the Aquatic Park where the qualification event was held. That hurt me a lot, but I had the support of my family." (gnu.com.br, 14 Jun 2021)
