He was born into a sports enthusiastic family as his mother was a competitive swimmer while his father played water polo. He used to practise football and swimming but at the time of choice he opted for the latter. "It was really hard. All my friends used to play football, and I used to play it on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. We had [swim] meets at the same time as the football games, so I had to choose one.
