He moved to the United States of America in 2017 to combine swimming training with studying for a degree in international relations and economics. He spent his freshman year at Indiana University Bloomington before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley. "This is the best way for swimmers. You train, compete and study. Since there is no money in swimming, it is important to have quality career options after swimming. This way, I will have my degree and I can swim as long as I like."
