FIGHTING THROUGH INFECTION
She competed at the 2017 South African Commonwealth Games Trials in Durban despite suffering with a viral infection. After achieving a qualification time in the 100m backstroke, she was given an oxygen mask and received medical attention immediately following the race. "The moment I touched [the wall] my throat closed up. It was frightening. I just decided I've worked so hard I wanted to swim here [at the trials]. I had been hoping to go faster until I got sick."
