General Interest

General
CLUB
In 2020 he launched Benjamin Hockin Club in Asuncion, Paraguay. "I had been giving some swimming training clinics at national level, encouraging kids to practise a sport. The idea is to give a new structure to Paraguayan swimming, another option. I see this as something positive for our swimming sport." (independiente.com.py, 16 Sep 2020)

REPRESENTING GREAT BRITAIN AND PARAGUAY
He was born in Colombia to a British father and Paraguayan mother. He grew up swimming in Paraguay before moving with his father as a teenager to Tenerife, Spain. At age 18 he went to Wales and swam for a high performance centre there, and then represented Great Britain at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. "In 2010, I decided to return to Paraguay and settle here. I took part in the South American Games [in March 2010] where for the first time I won four medals for the country." In December 2010 he was suspended for a year for not officially notifying the International Swimming Federation [FINA] of his nationality switch. The ban was backdated to May 2010 and he returned to competition in 2011. (swimswam.com, 10 Dec 2010; asiaone.com, 2012)
