Her father encouraged her to try sports. She tried many sports including basketball, ballet and netball before choosing swimming. "I come from a sporty background. My father was a football player, he played for the national team. He was very encouraging in terms of pursuing my dreams and doing sports. I felt the most connection with swimming. Everything else felt ok but it didn't feel right. But when I started swimming I felt yes this is for me."
