After his family moved to Bacau, Romania, he was encouraged to continue swimming with a new group that was established to train children by a friend of his fathers. "I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. I was just out of control. My parents thought that swimming would be an energy consumer for me and that's how I started practising it. At around age eight my father told me about the advantages of living like a high-performance athlete compared to a normal job.
