General Interest

General
BREAK FROM SWIMMING
He took a break from swimming in 2016 and focused on his studies to become a sea captain. He returned to the sport with the goal of competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, and along with compatriot Daniel Christian, became one of the first two swimmers from Eritrea to compete at the world championships in 2019. "I actually gave up swimming after the Swedish championships in 2016, but was pushed by my captain on board to give the sport another go. I want to show the people down there [in Eritrea] that the generation that is abroad thinks of them and gives them hope." (svt.se, 26 Jul 2019; SportsDeskOnline, 18 Jul 2021)

EDUCATION AND OCCUPATION
He studied nautical science at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, and has worked as a port officer at the Port of Gothenburg in Sweden. (Athlete, 31 Jul 2021; LinkedIn profile, 01 Apr 2021)
