She began learning Japanese ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. She started studying the language after visiting Japan on holiday. "I was learning how to read the characters. She became the first female sport climber to win two titles at the same edition of the world championships when she claimed victory in bouldering and combined in 2018 in Innsbruck, Austria. She then became the first female climber to successfully defend a world title in bouldering by winning gold in the discipline at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
