He took up surfing at an early age before switching his focus to skateboarding. "My parents got me a skateboard when I was three and I was just able to stand on it. I started surfing before I started skating and I really wanted to be a pro skater and surfer, but I took off in my skating - I started doing really well in contests, I won a couple and I just put all my focus into skating.
