He began skateboarding at age four in Jupiter, FL, United States of America, and began taking the sport seriously at age 10. He moved to Los Angeles, CA, in 2016 to pursue a professional career. He began skateboarding with his family as they would go to the local skatepark in Jupiter, FL, together as a family. "The first deck I got for Christmas was a little Walmart set up. The first time I ever got a complete board was at the skate shop Maverick which was the local shop in our town of Jupiter. We went there every day, then they gave my brother and me a set up. POSITIVE POSTPONEMENT
He said the postponement of the Olympic Games was beneficial to him as he could recover from injuries he had been struggling with. In May 2021 he won the men's park final at the 2021 Dew Tour in Des Moines, IA, United States of America, which helped secure him the points needed for Olympic qualification. "A lot of people [were] taking advantage during the quarantine time to really get out there and skate some stuff that's not normally skateable. Like from the beginning stage [of lockdown] to now, you know, we've taken a big advantage of that and just getting out there and getting on it. I was dealing with injuries so [the extra year] gave me an opportunity to just sit back and look at the bigger picture and just be like, 'Okay, if I can focus in and zone in on one thing, anything is possible. Words can't describe it, I'm just happy, I'm stoked [about winning the Dew Tour event]." DIVERSITY IN SKATEBOARDING
He said that in his experience growing up as an African American child at skateparks, there was not enough diversity within the skateboarding community. He hopes he can serve as a role model to increase diversity among future generations. "I can say as far as the whole black community and skateboarding, it's just growing and it's just going to only get bigger and bigger as far as our youth that's coming up. Not a lot of people would be like, 'Oh, yeah, I'm going to skateboard'. People take that as like a joke, they don't understand that. If you actually know, you can actually get good at this stuff and they can actually take you somewhere if you buckle down and put your mind to it." (rollingstone.com, 04 Mar 2021)
