Her father was a hunter and Fatima was always attracted to guns. At age five, after watching the shooting event at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona on television, she told her father that one day she would like to be there. He replied that if she worked hard enough, she would be able to do it. Two years later she picked up a rifle for the first time. Her father says she hit five out of five targets on her first attempt. "If I hadn't seen it myself, I would have thought it was a lie," he said. General Interest

General
PARTNERSHIP
She competes in the mixed trap team event alongside Alberto Fernandez. "Alberto and I are a perfect mixed team. We have very different skills and techniques which make our performances better with each competition. It's true we have experienced some bad luck in recent years because it was a sort of experiment. But we are confident that [the 2020 Olympic Games in] Tokyo will be our key moment. I think that the medal which has escaped us in different championships will transform into an Olympic medal. We deserve it." (ucamdeportes.com, 02 Oct 2020)

BENEFICIAL TIME OFF
She appreciated the time away from competition in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "I've improved my own record. Now I hit targets better than ever. I was surprised at how good I felt when I returned to competition. Tournaments and travelling are very demanding, so this period without any of them was very positive. I needed that rest. In high performance competition, what makes the difference for champions is your mind." (mundodeportivo.com, 23 Sep 2020)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
She has worked as an ambassador for the 'Mentor10' initiative, organised by the government of Andalusia in Spain. The project aims to promote sporting values and healthy living habits among young people. She was assigned to her hometown of Baena, where she mentors shooting athletes. "My only intention was to tell them about my experiences since I began at age 11 up until now that I'm competing in my third Olympic Games. All sports have the same values: effort, sacrifice, fair play, and respect for your rivals." (cordobahoy.es, 28 Oct 2019; baena.es, 20 Oct 2019)

FURTHER EDUCATION
She has studied psychology via distance learning at the Catholic University of Murcia [UCAM] in Spain. (ucamdeportes.com, 02 Oct 2020)
