LONG WAIT FOR TOKYO
After narrowly missing out on qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he spent 12 years considering whether or not to give up on his dream of competing at the Olympic Games. In mid-2019 he decided to give Olympic qualification one more attempt, eventually securing qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games at the US Olympic Trials in March 2020. "In the 2008 Olympic trials I missed out on making the team by one target, so it was always kind of in the back of my mind [that] maybe I should go back and try it [again] sometime. But timing in life never really did lend itself to having the availability to go and do it. It's a huge time investment. My wife [Diana] and I had several conversations about whether or not we should do it. The target that guaranteed me a spot on the [US 2020 Olympic] team, I had to walk from the fifth post all the way around to the first.
