RECREATIONAL DRUG BAN
In June 2008 the Bulgarian Olympic Committee announced that she would miss the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing because she had tested positive for cocaine at the 2008 World Cup event in Milan, Italy. She was subsequently banned for two years, returning to the sport in 2010. She was adamant that she unknowingly ingested the drug, and that someone else was responsible for it entering her system. "I have no evidence and do not want to announce names. I reserve the right to have my doubts [about] who did it, but my mouth remains closed. During those two years I realised who I could trust and rely on. The support I received from my coach, parents and closest friends helped me a lot."
