She and Ida Marie Baad Nielsen spent time away from the sport after they were not selected for the Denmark team ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games. "We took a break for a year-and-a-half when we lost the Olympics. It was not like we stopped. We looked each other deep in the eyes and would say to each other when we were ready for yet another Olympic campaign. We have become more open to suggestions and alternative training methods."
