General Interest

General
OCEAN SAILING
She took part in the 2017/18 Volvo Ocean Race. "Of course I found a lot of difficulties, from gaining the respect of everybody, facing the challenge of sailing those 20m-long boats and living the accelerated rhythm on board. With little experience before getting on board I had to make a big effort to learn, watch a lot and pay attention in order to not make any mistakes. It was a challenge, trying to do my best." (diarinho.com.br, 23 Jul 2019; redbull.com, 03 Sep 2018)

CREWMATE
She and her crewmate Kahena Kunze first met at age 13, when they sailed against each other in the Optimist class. Years later they began competing together in the 420 class, becoming junior world champions in 2009. The pair separated when Grael teamed up with Isabel Swan in the 470 class, a partnership that lasted until they missed out on qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Soon afterwards Grael and Kunze began competing together in the 49er FX class, and they went on to win gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
