CREWMATE
He competes in the 49er class with Marco Grael. The pair initially began sailing together in December 2012, but went their separate ways after finishing 11th at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro due to the pressure and strain of spending so much time preparing for the event. By the end of 2018 they had resumed their partnership, working alongside a psychologist to help them to communicate better with each other. "That time [apart] was good because we gained experience and sailed with other people. It might have been better if we had stayed together, because in the meantime our rivals continued working together, building a stronger relationship. It is like marriage, and sometimes even the other person brushing his teeth annoys you. But today we understand each other better. We became more mature to deal with it."
