Her brother Jose has competed in sailing and represented Spain in the RS:X class at the 2014 World Championships in Santander, Spain. Her aunt Eugenia Cantero has served as president of the Canary Islands Sailing Federation in Spain. She took up the sport at age nine. After sailing in the Optimist and Europe classes, she began competing in the Mistral class. Sailing is a popular sport in her family. "I was in a nautical environment from when I was a little girl. It can be said that the sailing club was my second home. When I was a kid I was clumsy and not athletic, but I was always certain that I liked sport. I practised ballet, karate, basketball and many others.
