His wife Mariana Foglia no longer sails competitively. He began sailing competitively with her in 2002 in the Snipe class. They got married in 2008 and switched to competing in Nacra 17 in 2012, then competed together at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. They had a backup in Rio, Dominique Knuppel, who joined the team definitively after the birth of the couple's second daughter.
