He originally competed in the Laser class, but switched to Finn with the aim of competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, after he was unable to secure his place in Laser in February 2020. He gained 15 kilograms by eating six meals a day, and bought a second-hand boat. In May 2021, he earned selection for the 2020 Games when he triumphed at the national team trials.
