Her son Rui was born in 2017. She began sailing again soon after becoming a mother, but revealed she might have retired if a different host city had been chosen for the 2020 Olympic Games. "If Tokyo were not the host city of the next Olympic Games in 2020, I might not have returned to the scene. I decided to compete in the sport again with aim of a medal at the 2020 Games."
