She began sailing at age 10 in Kaunas, Lithuania. (laserinternational.org, 13 Apr 2019)

"There were seven of us girls, me with my two sisters and four neighbours. Two of them were distant relatives of a professional sailing coach. At that time, it was mostly boys sailing in Lithuania so this coach wanted to increase the number of girls. It was the beginning of summer and these two girls invited all the neighbourhood girls to try sailing on our hometown lake in Kaunas. When I tried it, I liked sailing so much. I also got good results very early so I stayed in sailing." (laserinternational.org, 13 Apr 2019)

General Interest

General
MENTAL PREPARATION
She began working with a psychologist in December 2018. "The Laser Radial fleet is really strong now and all the top sailors are working hard. Our boats are very similar so mental preparation is very important. If weather conditions are tricky, a few bad races can change a lot. It's very important to stay calm and focus until the end of the regatta and fight to the finish of the last race." (laserinternational.org, 13 Apr 2019)

BREAK
She took a five-month break from the sport after competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "After each race, I always asked myself why I want this, why I need this. Such questions come to me every time I'm tired. The hardest one, I think, was after competing at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Somehow, I asked myself, 'Do I want to continue sailing?' Then I took a five-month break. And, naturally, I missed sailing. After all, since deciding to pursue this sport to a higher level in 2007, I have given everything to sailing. I just lived with it."
