Her parents and family used to sail. "For me, sailing is a tough sport because it pits you against nature. You suddenly find yourself in the middle of the bay, far away from land and you have only water surrounding you, with wind and waves, and it is like fighting against nature. Facing tough situations and being able to finish the competition in order to say 'Wow, I did it' is something that motivates me most, because of the toughness of the situation. She took a break from the sport after missing qualification for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, ON, Canada. She used the time to focus on her studies, and after a year without competition, she received support from the Mexican Navy to represent them at national championships. She later qualified for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, which meant she returned to the national team.
