He served as manager of the South African team that took part in the 2017 World Youth Championships in Sanya, People's Republic of China. "I very much enjoyed the challenge and I enjoyed it for what it was, a completely different role to going and sailing the event. There are very different challenges and it's very demanding as there are so many different aspects that need attention. Maybe [I would consider management] in the future at some stage though. I think a lot of sailors transfer across to that role and maybe I can at some point, but right now that really doesn't interest me as much as sailing does." (sailing.co.za, 01 Jan 2018)
