His sister Isabella Maegli has represented Guatemala in sailing. She was ranked 51st in Laser Radial at the 2019 Class World Championships in Sakaiminato, Japan. His father Juan Maegli-Novella competed in sailing for Guatemala at three consecutive Olympic Games between 1976 and 1984. His grandfather Jose Aguero was a two-time National Collegiate Athletic Association [NCAA] tennis champion in the United States of America.
