Start:

He was introduced to the sport in 2006 during his first week at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where he was studying medicine. Six months later he signed up for his first spring season at the Leiden student rowing club, Asopos de Vliet. "I landed in a determined rowing group with whom I started taking part in competitions. POST-TOKYO PLANS
He intends to finish medical school following the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, and then take up a position at the Alrijne hospital in Leiderdorp, Netherlands. "The chances are quite small that I will continue [competing] after Tokyo. Of course you should never say never, but the chance is small. At some point you have to think about your career.
