He took up rowing at age 15. (rowit.gr, 20 Mar 2020)
:
He practised athletics growing up and was scouted by a rowing coach. "Until I was age 15 I was involved in athletics. A rowing coach came to my school and encouraged me to try this sport. At my first session I heard rowers screaming. I was very surprised and very cautious. I had never seen anything like it in my life. Why would anyone want to practise a sport so demanding, so hard and so painful? Over time I came to love rowing. I was impressed by our ability to endure intense pain. Of course, there were times when I wanted to give up. Eventually, I learned that there was no easy way, so I did not let the pain get in the way." "I will never forget the words that one of my old coaches wrote and posted on the wall - 'The best rowers are the ones who have the best physical condition of all. They are strong like weightlifters and tall like basketball players. They have the endurance of long-distance runners and the explosiveness of sprinters. They have the lungs of a climber, the heart of a lion and the concentration of a chess player'." (rowit.gr, 20 Mar 2020)

General Interest

General
EVENT SWITCH
In 2019 he began focusing on the men's single sculls. He had rowed in the men's double sculls at the 2018 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and the men's lightweight coxless four at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "I would say that competing as a crew was easier, since you could physically and mentally prepare everything together. On the other hand, being a crew could also be stressful during races. You are fighting for the whole team and that is one more weight. I believe that things are much more difficult in single sculls, since you fight alone. If something goes wrong the responsibility is yours, just as if something goes well. But the hard work remains the same in both events. I chose single sculls because the others had left the national team and so I had to. But after some successes I had in single sculls I decided to continue." (sportstories.gr, 07 Apr 2020; rowit.gr, 20 Mar 2020; worldrowing.com, 21 May 2021; SportsDeskOnline, 24 Jun 2021)

RIO EXPERIENCE
On his Olympic debut he was part of the men's lightweight coxless four crew that placed sixth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "We became a team in just a week and that was why we were not well prepared. In addition, the boat was not ours, we had rented it. We never tried it before. Nevertheless, against all odds we managed to reach the final. It was due to the fact that each of us was well trained, and we never stopped believing in our dreams. We fought hard." (sportstories.gr, 07 Apr 2020; rowit.gr, 20 Mar 2020)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
He has served as an athlete representative on the board of the Greek Rowing Federation [EKOFNS]. (agon.gr, 01 Apr 2021)
