DELAYED STUDIES
In 2019 he deferred the final year of his master's degree at the University of Cambridge in England to concentrate on qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, returning to his studies in September 2020. His mother was born in Britain and moved to Bermuda as a child, and his father is from the Islamic Republic of Iran. He also has US citizenship, as he grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts. He rowed for the United States of America in junior competitions and was part of the US team that won a silver medal in the men's eight at the 2015 World U23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, before deciding to row for Bermuda.
