DISCIPLINE SWITCH
She mostly competed in the US women's four earlier in her career before switching to single sculls in 2018. "It all stems from not making the Rio [2016 Olympic] team and wanting to get better. So the single is the perfect opportunity to improve and 2018 was my first season in that event where I had a good world championships by making the A final [fourth place], which was my main goal. To then finish my 2019 season with a bronze at a world championships I was even happier. Thanks to my teammates I cannot wait to see what we are capable of accomplishing during 2020." CHANGING SPORTS
A swimmer in high school, she was unable to get a scholarship for any of the colleges she wanted and was intrigued by the idea of starting a new sport. "I did not train [in rowing] at all before I got to college because I was still swimming at that point. I asked [University of California, Berkeley head coach] Dave [O'Neill] if I should start training rowing, or whatever, since I didn't know what the routine or regimen was and he just told me to keep doing what I'm doing. He just wanted me to keep my fitness and not develop any bad habits so he could take me and mould me." (cnn.com, 16 Mar 2012)
