In the early part of 2020 he began living with teammate Olaf Tufte and his family in Nykirke, Norway. Tufte owns a farm, and Helvig decided to continue living there even after the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Olaf said I should come. I am there quite often to get some proper training. His wife arranges the food, there are fitness rooms here, and everything is organised. You have the best sports life you could have. I help a little [with Olaf's farming activities], but I will not brag that I work like him every day. He has long days. We train in the morning, he throws in lunch, and then goes into the woods or rides the tractor, and works until 16:00 or 17:00. Then we have a training session in the evening. It is completely insane. There's a reason he's been around for this long. I want to learn as much as I can before he one day gives up.
