He first met rowing partner Arvind Singh in 2017 while serving in the Indian Army, before they began to train together in lightweight double sculls at the Army Sports Institute in Pune the following year. He says their friendship helped them cope with the strict quarantine restrictions in place when they earned a quota spot for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo at the Asia and Oceania Qualification Regatta in Tokyo, Japan. "We trust and understand each other. This gives us the courage to overcome all difficulties. We were both confined to separate rooms but were in constant touch over the phone.
