He began rowing in 2001 at the Canottieri Napoli club in Italy. (eurosport.it, 11 Feb 2020; worldrowing.com, 01 Apr 2016; Athlete, 23 Jul 2021)
:
He used to watch his older brother Fabio rowing as a child. "I liked football, like most children, but I also had a boundless love for my brother Fabio who as a good older brother would always put up with me and carry me wherever he went. Fabio was looking for an activity that would help him lose weight and after making some attempts here and there, his choice fell on rowing. I was nine years old and I didn't even know what rowing was, I didn't really care. The minimum age to start rowing at the club was 10 so I just sat with my ball in my arms and watched Fabio training. My brother's coach was fed up with seeing me just sitting around while others were sweating. He broke the age rule, and put me on a boat. He also told me, 'Since you come every day, tomorrow bring some shorts and a shirt and let's start doing something.' From there my adventure with rowing started." "It was not easy to get to the top, because in addition to sacrifice, you must also have an awareness. You have to feel inside that it is what you want to do with your life because you will have to get up at 05:00, you will have to train before school, and you will have to train again in the afternoon. The most difficult thing is to keep certain routines without having any certainty of success. I never doubted my will because I had a strong reason not to give up rowing." (eurosport.it, 11 Feb 2020)

In 2015 he received the 'Collare d'Oro al Merito Sportivo' [Gold Collar of Sporting Merit] from the Italian Olympic Committee [CONI]. (coni.it, 15 Dec 2015)

RIO EXPERIENCE
He was a member of the Italian men's four boat in the lead-up to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, but just a month before the Games were due to start he was told he would be competing in the coxless pair with Giovanni Abagnale. The duo went on to win a bronze medal together in Brazil. "The approach to the 2016 Olympic Games was like riding a roller coaster. I was a member of the coxless four, which had achieved a lot in the previous years and we were a very close-knit group. I had done all the preparation for the Games with them, and just 20 days prior to leaving for Brazil, everything seemed outlined. Then, however, the coach told me that I would no longer be part of that crew, and that I would be assigned to the coxless pair with Giovanni. We brought home a [bronze] medal together."
