RETIREMENT AND RETURN
He retired from rowing in 2009 and spent four years working on an offshore oil platform in Kazakhstan as an electrical inspector. He then relocated to Sydney, NSW, Australia, where he held a number of jobs, before returning to rowing in 2016, initially as a hobby. "I decided to step back from the sport after the 2009 U23 World Championships, but after a long period away I returned to training in early 2017. I want to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. I've got a love-hate relationship with rowing. The only thing that convinced me is the idea of winning a medal."
