General Interest

General
RIO DISAPPOINTMENT
He travelled to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as a reserve. "I don't have any good memories of Rio. They are still sore. Being able only to watch made me very sad. It certainly motivated me to work at my strengths and weaknesses. It takes a lot of strength to perform constantly. You have to have the talent to stay focused while winning and always look forward to the next goal. And you have to learn more from your defeats than your victories." (sporthilfe.de, 01 Jul 2019; Deutschland-Achter Vimeo account, 15 Dec 2018)

MEDICAL STUDIES
He is a medical student at Bochum University. "I have heard many young athletes say that they want to stop doing competitive sports to get a better high school diploma. In my opinion, this is often just an excuse to get back into a comfort zone. I personally would not have achieved better grades if I hadn't done any sport. I also learnt many life skills, such as time management, in the process. So everyone should at least try and not assume that you can't do it." (sporthilfe.de, 01 Jul 2019)
