Regional coaches came to his school looking for potential rowers. "They said that all the tall students should stand up, so I thought that it would not be a sport for me." But the coaches also asked the shorter students to stand as they were looking for kids to steer the boat. "I thought it was a joke at first." After trying out, he joined the Berliner Ruder-Club.
