He took up the sport in Caen, France, near the beaches of Normandy. (indiegogo.com, 2014)
:
He discovered rowing at a young age after it was part of an activity organised by his day care. He was inspired to take up the sport competitively after attending the 2012 Olympic Games in London. "Rowing has everything. Difficult and fun and open. This is why I chose rowing. I like the complexity of the sport, and the fact that it is complete and that it exercises a good number of muscles in the human body." (tokyo2020.org, 26 Jun 2020; actu.fr, 17 Oct 2019; World Rowing Twitter profile, 15 Jul 2019)

To compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and become the first athlete to represent Benin in rowing in the Olympic Games. (YouTube channel, 02 Jan 2020; privelhinkati.com, 06 Oct 2019)
:
He usually trains twice a day. "I go to training at about 06:00 and finish two hours later. I continue with some physical exercises over my work lunch break, and in the evening I can finish with another workout." (tokyo2020.org, 26 Jun 2020; YouTube channel, 02 Jan 2020)
:
"When I am lying on my bed struggling to get out to train, and I have all sorts of excuses and reasons running through my mind, I remember that today is my chance to be better. And I cannot be better in my bed. At that moment I quickly get up." (tokyo2020.org, 26 Jun 2020)

General Interest

General
DUAL CITIZENSHIP
Born in Caen, France, to Beninese parents, he holds French and Beninese citizenship. He had the choice to represent either country, and he opted for Benin. "I wanted to promote rowing and be an ambassador for my country. I think [competing] for Benin will be bigger. For France it would only be about the sport. With Benin, I would have to start from scratch: no federation, no funding, no boats. Nobody in the country knows the sport. That's why I chose Benin." (tokyo2020.org, 26 Jun 2020; actu.fr, 17 Oct 2019; indiegogo.com, 2014)

FEDERATION
In 2012 he decided to focus on rowing with the goal of competing at the Olympic Games. At the time, there was no rowing federation in Benin so he had to work alongside local authorities and World Rowing to create one in the country that could help to grow the sport. "The Federation now exists and is working. Everyone in Benin now knows what rowing is. We have about five rowing clubs in Benin, and close to 70 rowers," he said in 2020. (tokyo2020.org, 26 Jun 2020)

OCCUPATION
He works as a full-time computer engineer project manager at the town hall in Caen, France. (YouTube channel, 02 Jan 2020; tokyo2020.org, 26 Jun 2020)
