General
Belarus have competed at every Games since the group all-around event was introduced to the Olympic programme in 1996. The team won silver in Sydney in 2000 and at the 2012 Games in London, while they claimed bronze in 2008 in Beijing. At the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, they placed fifth in the final.

The Belarusian team qualified for Tokyo by finishing fourth at the 2019 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was the closest they had come to a world championship medal in four attempts since winning bronze in 2014. Belarus stood on the podium at 12 of their 13 world championship appearances from 1995 to 2014, and won gold twice in that period [1998 and 2013].

Belarus are the reigning European Games champions following their victory on home soil at the 2019 Games in Minsk. In nine European championship appearances from 2001 to 2018, they won three silver and three bronze medals. They arrive in Tokyo having finished fourth at the 2021 European Championships held in Bulgaria, missing out on adding another medal to their collection by less than a point.
