RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
He considered his retirement from international competition due to the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, but decided to continue his sporting career for his family. "To be honest, I wanted to leave the scene after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, because I felt that four years were such a long time. I was not sure whether I would be able to do it until 2020. However, my coach encouraged me to continue my sporting career, so I just decided to work hard each year. Also, I wanted to compete at the Olympics that would be hosted in my country. Although I also had time to think like what I would train for [after the postponement of the 2020 Olympics], I changed my mind for my growing children and parents who are looking forward to it. It will be my last edition of the Olympic Games, so I want to finish it with a smile." (tokyo2020.org, 15 Sep 2020)
