His father competed in modern pentathlon and introduced him to the sport. "I went along with him to a masters competition. The coach, Marian Gheorghe, asked me if I wanted to try the sport. I did it casually for two years and it wasn't until watching the 2012 Olympic Games in London that the Olympic dream sparked inside of me and that is when I took the decision to pursue my dream professionally. Before doing modern pentathlon I was a triathlete and a runner. When I tried pentathlon out for the first time there was something about the diversity of all the sports that made it attractive. Ironically triathlon was very difficult for me and I did not enjoy it with a passion, but switching to five sports really caught my attention and to my surprise I had enough talent in all the sports to catch on to it quickly." General Interest

General
COMMISSION MEMBER
He has served as a member of the Athletes' Commission of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee. He has also served as the deputy chairman of the International Modern Pentathlon Union [UIPM] Athletes' Committee. He is among the candidates to join the International Olympic Committee's Athletes' Commission, with elections to be held in 2021 during the Olympic Games in Tokyo. "For me it's important that athletes from Guatemala and other countries of the 'third world' could have a voice within this organisation. The idea is to bring there our own perspective, different from that of other countries. It's important to acknowledge this diversity within the Games and to unite all of us. In the end, that's the idea of the Olympic Games, to be united through sports and peace."
