General Interest

General
FROM SYRIA TO GERMANY
He worked in a textile factory and as a part-time martial arts coach in Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic, before fleeing the country in 2015 due to the threat of war and the prospect of being drafted by the military. He travelled for four weeks through several countries, which included using a rubber dinghy to reach Turkey and cycling to the Serbian border through North Macedonia before finally arriving in Germany. "It's never an easy decision for people to leave their country. It was like a lottery game. Either I win my life or I lose it. I experienced security for the first time in Germany. And I thought to myself, 'Here I can build a future'." He still has family and friends in the Syrian Arab Republic, including his sister and his father. "It is very difficult for them. Unfortunately, I can hardly do anything for them. I try to give them strength by showing what you can achieve as a refugee."
