She took up judo at age six in Hamburg, Germany. "I think [when I was] about 14, I picked up training a little more. I had a big passion [for judo], but school always came first. But I still had this dream to make the German national team." (Judo YouTube channel, 16 Jun 2020; rio2016.olympics.com.au, 10 Jun 2016)
:
"I was full of energy when I was a child, and my mother was very annoyed with me because I would jump up and down around the house. So, she was trying to get me into sports. I tried a few things but I fell in love with judo straight away. I started with a friend but she stopped after two years and my mother asked, 'Do you want to keep going?' I was like, 'Yeah, no question'. The main reason I compete in judo is that I simply love this sport and the way of life." (Judo YouTube channel, 16 Jun 2020; rio2016.olympics.com.au, 10 Jun 2016)

DUAL CITIZENSHIP
She was born in Germany to an Australian father and a German mother. She began representing Australia in 2014. "My dad is Australian so I've always had two passports. He would always tell my brother and me lots of stories of his days growing up there. After I finished high school I made the decision to stop competitive judo and take a year off to discover Australia. I felt right at home straight away. We decided, in 2014, to represent Australia. I competed at a few European Cup events representing my club in Hamburg, Germany. But for the IJF World Tour I've always represented Australia." (Judo YouTube channel, 16 Jun 2020; patreon.com, 25 Mar 2020; judoinside.com, 25 Jun 2016)

BASED IN LUXEMBOURG
In 2019 she moved to Luxembourg after her husband Alexander Ludecke became coach of the nation's judo team. "We moved and train there, but pretty much we train all over the world with all the training camps and competitions. Before that, I used to train at a state training centre in Hamburg."
