He received the Spirit of Judo award for fair play at the 2014 European Junior Championships in Bucharest, Romania. After his Russian opponent in the gold medal bout, Ruslan Shakhbazov, sustained an injury and could not continue, he did not continue fighting and helped Shakhbazov leave the competition area. "Frankly speaking, I don't think that I committed some super deed. It's a very painful injury, he strained his hamstring. I know how painful it is. I suffered the same injury at the [2014] Continental Cup in Sofia [Bulgaria], and could not continue competing in the final, either."
