General Interest

General
WEIGHT CLASS CHANGE
In 2017 he moved up from the 81kg category to the 90kg class. "The change was basically because I was struggling to get under 81kg due to my own physical development. My first year in the 90kg category was 2017 and I cannot consider it a bad move. I won the national and Pan American championships. In 2018 I finished my transition period to the new class. I was national champion again and the inclusion of [fellow Cuban judoka] Asley Gonzalez motivated me to train much harder and raise my level." (cubasi.cu, 10 Feb 2019)

MEDAL DEDICATION
He dedicated the gold medal he won at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, to his father who had died just days before the competition. "Wherever he might be, he deserves this gold." (cubadebate.cu, 11 Aug 2019)
