She followed her brother into the sport. "We used to pick up my eldest brother from judo training together with our mum and we would then romp around on the mat. Then we started the training ourselves and very quickly we slid into the competitive side of things." (tum.de, 13 Feb 2020)

Her twin sister Amelie. "The person who is probably the most responsible for the fact that I am successful in judo is Amelie. She manages to push me in a special way, sometimes criticise me and thus always gets the best out of me." (sporthilfe.de, 09 Jul 2019)
:
"Talent is a good basis to be successful. Much more important, however, is having discipline and an iron will that can push you to your limit every day." (deutsche-bank.de, 24 Mar 2020)

JUDO TWINS
Her twin sister Amelie is also an international judoka. The siblings have shared an apartment in Munich, Germany, compete in the same weight class, and have faced each other in competition. "Amelie and I are one heart and one soul. We are there for each other and support one another wherever possible, but we are also competitors on the mat. We train together and if we see that the other is a bit faster or more powerful, then we push harder to reach that level. We know each other so well. We are quite different in many ways, but there are also many similarities and that is why we work so well as a team. It is never nice to fight against your sister, though." JUGGLING SPORT AND STUDY
She says playing judo and her studies in medicine at the Technical University of Munich complement each other. "When I finished high school, I took a year off to focus on judo and to give myself some time to think about my future. I did a two-month internship in a hospital and realised medicine was something I wanted to pursue. I've always been interested in the human body and perhaps that knowledge helps me better understand the biomechanics of judo moves. I also think that given how much training I do, studying is an outlet that gives some balance to my life. For me there was never a consideration to give up one as I am passionate about both, but there will be times I have to prioritise one over the other. I had to skip the world championships in 2017, which was not an easy decision, but a necessary one." (judoinside.com, 25 Apr 2020)
