General Interest

General
CHANGE OF CATEGORY
In 2017 she moved up from the 48kg weight class to the 57kg category. After she claimed victory in 48kg at a national event in Japan in 2016, she had a growth spurt the following year and had difficulty losing weight to remain in the 48kg category, collapsing from exhaustion during the weight-loss process. She took a one-month break from the sport and returned to compete in 57kg. (news.joins.com, 16 Apr 2021; koreajoongangdaily.joins.com, 13 Feb 2019)

HERITAGE
She was born to Korean parents in Himeji, Japan, after her grandparents had initially moved to the country. She relocated to the Republic of Korea after graduating from high school in order to join the Korean national team.
