His father, Eric-Louis Bessi, became the first judoka to compete for Monaco at the Olympic Games at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. He also competed at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, and has served as president of the executive committee of the Monaco Judo Federation. He took up judo in Monaco at age five. (lagazettedemonaco.com, 15 Aug 2020)
:
He followed his father, Eric-Louis, and his older brother into the sport. He also tried tennis, cycling and skateboarding as a child, but preferred judo. "I was waiting for the school day to end to be back on the tatami mats. To take up the words of [his first coach] Marcel - what we do in judo is what we cannot do at school or in the playground. Rolling on the ground, screaming, bickering, pulling on each other's clothes. It was fun - this sense of the forbidden from childhood to adolescence allowed me to grow, to blossom and to find a balance." (lagazettedemonaco.com, 15 Aug 2020; codesport.fr, 02 Apr 2014)
:
To compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. (ijf.org, 12 Jun 2021)
:
Since childhood he has trained at the Stade Louis II in Monaco, and he usually trains twice a day. In 2021 he travelled to Valdeblore in the French Alps for an altitude training course. (archysport.com, 08 Jul 2021; lagazettedemonaco.com, 15 Aug 2020)
:
His father Eric-Louis, and his first coach Marcel Pietri. (lagazettedemonaco.com, 15 Aug 2020; codesport.fr, 02 Apr 2014)
:
"The most important thing is to fight your own fight. I do not pay attention to the competition - I give my best, I know my goals and I know where I want to go." (lagazettedemonaco.com, 15 Aug 2020)
