TIME OFF THE NATIONAL TEAM
She spent a year away from the national team during 2019 after feeling she could not be at her highest level with the team. "There are moments in which you enjoy sport and other in which you just do not. I was burned out, there was a high demand. It is beautiful to play for your country and having a relaxed mind, but I could not perform at 100%. I thought it was so irresponsible to take the place of someone else who could do it better. I felt I was not respecting my teammates and the staff. It took so much to make the decision but once I did it removed a huge burden from myself. [National coach] Carlos Retegui offered me to come back, to play for a chance to qualify for the [2020] Olympic Games, and after resting for one year, in which I could open up my mind and accept myself as a person, I began to enjoy [playing for the national team] again."
